Peniche Fortress - Museum of Resistance and Freedom
Peniche Fortress - Museum of Resistance and Freedom
The Fortress of Peniche is one of the most emblematic monuments of the city of Peniche and once hosted political prisoners.

Since April 27, 1974, the date of the release of political prisoners, the Fortress of Peniche is affirmed as a symbol of the Resistance and the struggle for Freedom, giving rise, in 2017, to the recognition as the National Museum of Resistance and Freedom, as a space-memory and major symbol of the struggle for freedom on a national scale, preserving the memory of the 48 years of suppression of rights in Portugal.
