Surfers paradise

Since ancient times, Peniche has been deeply linked to the sea. Initially it was an island, but with the wind and the tides it became a peninsula.

During prehistoric times, various civilizations occupied this area due to the richness of the land and the coast and, especially, because of the strategic position that Peniche has.

With the occupation by the Romans, the economy came to be based mainly on agriculture and fishing. To this day, the canning industry still has a great importance in local development.

Peniche was and still is the setting chosen by the most prestigious surfers in the world, such as Frederico Morais (Kikas), Vasco Ribeiro, Miguel Blanco and Gabriel Medina. These professionals contributed to the creation of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal, an event that attracts more and more people, unique and spectacular!
